Hatchet is outstanding. It is so cool to see how the main character was able to go from being in the city to out in the middle of the forest! If I were to ever get lost in a forest I would now know how hard it will be to survive, but I would also have a better idea of what to do and what to stay away from. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes survival books. I give this book 5 stars for its amazing character development and series of events. It is just an all around great read. @Gasenic of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a compelling survival story of thirteen-year-old Brian, who becomes stuck in the wilderness when his plane crashes. Brian has to learn how to survive in the Canadian wilderness. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was written very well, and I could feel Brian's pain, hunger, and sadness. It really touched my heart. I was impressed with Brian; I loved seeing how innovative his brain worked and how he made tools from his environment. I recommend this book to people of all ages. The survival lessons you learn from Brian could potentially save your life if you ever find yourself stuck alone in the wild! Rating: 5 stars @LavishReads of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a book about a boy who learns to survive in the wilderness. The book starts off with a boy named Brian who is travelling to see his father in Northern Canada. Suddenly the pilot has a heart attack and Brian doesn’t know what to do. The plane ends up crashing, Brian ends up surviving, and now he needs to learn how to survive in the wilderness. I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and I found I wanted to keep on reading to find out what would happen next. I was excited to discover that it is the first book in a series. I liked the author’s style because it’s different from any book I've read. What I like about his style is that he used words and phrases that a normal 13 year old kid would use. I would recommend this book to any children who are ages 12 and up. I gave this book a 5/5 rating because the book makes you feel like you are on this journey with him. @GymGirl of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
