Workmanlike drama with a few good guest stars. I watched it because I rate Stephen Tomkinson. The producers are making a stab at addressing diversity issues so there are now more black and Asian characters. The only group that are still invisible are women over fifty. In one instance a character shows Banks a photo of himself and his late wife. Even in this, where the woman has no role except this photo, she is 20 years younger than the male actor, because heaven forbid dramas show men in love with women their own age. Everyday sexism at its most pernicious.

Another three entertaining stories.

Given this three stars> If I hadn't read the books the stories are based on, I would have given 3 1/2, maybe even 4. However, I have read them, and the stories are sometimes unrecognizable -- "Piece of My Heart" being a case in point, with the novel (IMHO) being far superior.

As good as the 2 previous seasons! Banks is his stoic, sour self, but competent as always. This time he deals with love in the workplace, his DIs being accused of misconduct, and the kidnapping of his own daughter. All in a day's work for Alan Banks!
