This is a charming book about a boy who wants to pick out a pup from an animal shelter and learns an important lesson. The rhythm and rhymes of the story make it an excellent book to read to children and for use in any storytime. The only drawback is that the drawings are average although large and suitable for the story. This was the illustrator's first book so it is understandable.

I don't even like dogs but I liked this book! I thought the rhymes that described different styles of dogs were charming.
