The death of a journalist leads Gabriel Allon to Russia, where he finds that, in terms of spycraft, even he has something to learn. He's playing by Moscow rules now. Ivan Kharkov, a former KGB colonel who built a global investment empire on the rubble of the Soviet Union, is an arms dealer and he is about to deliver Russia's most sophisticated weapons to al- Qaeda. A good read but drags a little in the middle when he is interrogated by the Russians. I wish there was more closure around the crime lord's demise but overall this meets expectations for a Silva novel; gripping, unpredictable and politically fraught.

Another in the Gabriel Allon series, there is little you can criticize about Silva's writing. It is another excellent read though the plot near the end is not as believable as some other titles.

I liked it right until the end, when I thought the ending was pretty bad
