Took me 2 months to get through the first 500 pages. Took 1 1/2 days to read the last 500 pages. One of my all-time favourites!

Sprawling epic, authentic feel, memorable characters; ultra romantic. I just found the writing itself a bit pedestrian though. I also recommend seeing the 1984 HBO miniseries available on DVD! Terrific locations, scenery, excellent cast (Amy Irving is stunning)

this is a great epic story, reread numerous times and each time I loved it more!
